If you haven't been to Cayman Brac, then you haven't experienced the Cayman Islands! Grand Cayman, with its faster pace and George Town bustle, offers gorgeous views and numerous things to do. And, Little Cayman is truly picturesque, with its pure white beaches contrasting against the vivid blue water. But, without Cayman Brac, the cultural flavor is incomplete! Although the Brac is small, about 2 miles by 12 miles, you'll need to rent a car for trips around the island---particularly to explore the bluff. Any article on Cayman Brac will describe the bluff; it runs up the center of the island from sea level to about 140 feet at its highest point. It is a great place to explore; much of it is not inhabited yet so the flavor of the islands natural vegetation remains untouched in some areas. And, as you zip around the island in your vehicle, the most enjoyable thing is that everyone says "hello". Drivers will wave as you pass each other on the uncongested (you can drive alone for miles!) road. After a while, saying hello to strangers becomes a habit. It was the most depressing experience to return to the U.S. airports after our departure from the island---it all seemed so cold and impersonal! |
